Following up on it’s promise last week, Google has announced you can now download the Android 7.1  Developer Preview, the same version running on the new Pixel phones.

It’s not as big of a deal as a full version update, but there are still some notable new features. We break them down better in this post, but as a recap, 7.1 includes:

  • Daydream VR platform support
  • GIF keyboard support
  • Resources for making Circular Icons (Google’s new aesthetic on the Pixel phones)
  • App Shortcuts (basically 3D Touch shortcuts accessed via a long press)

You can try out Android 7.1  by signing up for the same public Android Beta programfrom the original Nougat previews. If you’re already enrolled, you’ll receive the update automatically over the air.

Android 7.1 will be available to try for the Nexus 5X, 6P, Pixel C to start, and will extend to ‘other supported devices’ in November. For more information on the developer-centric side of things, including new APIs and updates to publishing on Google Play, check out the source link below.
