In the midst of a Nintendo Direct announcement in Japan, a mysterious tweet has appeared purporting to show the new Nintendo NX.
The tweet originated from the account @guythefighter, whose description reads as the following when slapped through Google Translate.
“Announcements or from Nintendo, will tell the update information of the home page . Please pardon because it does not have to answer to your questions and inquiries.”
Not the smoothest translation, but you get the gist. The tweet in question shows a controller which extends outward laterally to reveal a screen in the centre.
There are, however, several problems with this design. Firstly, the central screen is too big to shrink between the pads on either side unless it’s some kind of crazy bendable OLED magic, which we doubt.
Secondly the pads themselves look about as ergonomic as a hedgehog dipped in sulphuric acid. Good luck playing with that between your paws for a few hours.
The design also conflicts with reports that the NX is a handheld with a 6.2″ screen and space for cartridges. The above looks more like a controller than an actual console with working innards.
More reliable information regarding the NX suggests that it will be a handheld-console hybrid and integrate with first-party mobile apps.
