Are the Bowers & Wilkins P9 Signature the perfect portable headphones?

Want a pair of headphones that ooze cool, classic high-end style while also offering God-like audio? Well then these cans might just be the pair for you.

Styled like the ultimate James Bond accessory, the Bowers & Wilkins P9 Signature takes everything that’s great from the company’s past products, such as the brilliant P7 Wireless, and kicks it all into overdrive.

Crafted to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary, B&W has gone all out with the P9 Signature cans, pairing all manner of luxurious materials with high-end sound tuning previously reserved for the company’s top-of-the-line home audio speakers.

They’re big, sure, but that added space hosts oversized drivers that Bowers promises will give the effect of listening to a pair of stereo speakers rather than a set of headphones.

It’s not just about the sound, but looks too. Specially stamped, cross-hatched Italian Safiano leather is wrapped around the reinforced head strap and memory foam cushioned ear pads. Seriously, memory foam, like a posh hotel’s bed.

As well as offering added comfort, this luxurious addition helps block out the noises from the outside world. What’s more, they’re only going to get more comfortable with use, moulding to the shape of the wearer.

There’s no need to worry that they won’t work with your phone either – at least not in the long run. Coming equipped with the traditional 3.5mm audio connector, Bowers & Wilkins has confirmed that it will send an additional Lightning cable to all owners free of charge early in the new year.

There is a catch though. While they will play nice with your headphone port-shunning iPhone 7, they won’t play nice with your wallet. All this audio excellence and luxurious materials doesn’t come cheap. Actually, it’s all pretty damn expensive.

How expensive? Well, if you’ve got your eye on a pair, you’re going to have to put £699 aside when they go on sale later this month. Ouch.
